About HandSynth

HandSynth is an independent browser instrument. It turns webcam hand tracking into a chord synth and an air theremin, with mouse, touch and keyboard modes for devices without a camera.

Credits

The gesture synth idea, with one hand choosing chords and the other shaping them, comes from two open-source projects released in July 2026 by Eric Wei and Ekmand. HandSynth is written from scratch and is not affiliated with either project; both are listed with links on the source projects page.

Hand tracking uses Google's MediaPipe Hand Landmarker (Apache-2.0), compiled to WebAssembly and run entirely in your browser. Sound is generated with the Web Audio API. No audio libraries, no server.
